2. What personal data we collect

We collect the following categories of personal data from you:

Account information

  • Your email address, used to create and manage your Fungry account.
  • Your name or display name, if you choose to provide one.
  • Authentication credentials (managed securely — we do not store plain-text passwords).

Taste profile data (Taste ID)

This is the core data that powers Fungry. It includes:

  • Your answers to our flavour assessment questions, covering dimensions such as sweetness, spiciness, richness, sourness, umami, saltiness, bitterness, and freshness preferences.
  • Your derived taste archetype (e.g. Bold Adventurer, Fresh Minimalist) generated from your assessment answers.
  • Your dietary restrictions, allergen information, and ingredient aversions as provided by you.
  • Your cuisine familiarity, protein preferences, cooking method preferences, and adventurousness score.
  • Your price sensitivity and portion preferences.

Meal interaction data

  • Meals you save, favourite, or mark as disliked.
  • Meal cards you tap, view, or dismiss.
  • Reviews or ratings you leave on meals.
  • Meals you share via the platform.
  • Your order history where you connect a partner platform to Fungry (where applicable).

Location data

Your approximate or precise location, collected via your device, to surface relevant local restaurants and meal options. We only collect location data when you are actively using the app and with your explicit permission. You can withdraw location access at any time through your device settings.

Usage and technical data

  • Device type, operating system, and browser or app version.
  • IP address and general geographic region.
  • Pages or screens viewed, time spent, and in-app navigation patterns.
  • Crash reports and performance data to help us improve the product.

3. How we use your personal data and our legal basis

Under UK GDPR, we must have a lawful basis for processing your personal data. The table below sets out what we use your data for and the legal basis we rely on.

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have assessed that our interests do not override your rights and freedoms. You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests — see Section 7.

4. How we share your personal data

We do not sell your personal data. We may share your data in the following limited circumstances:

Enterprise partners (anonymised and aggregated only)

Fungry licenses taste intelligence insights to food platforms and restaurant groups. This data is always anonymised and aggregated before sharing — it describes patterns across our user base, never individual users. No data shared with enterprise partners can be used to identify you.

Service providers

We use third-party service providers to operate Fungry. These providers act as data processors and may only use your data on our instructions. We have data processing agreements in place with all service providers and require them to maintain appropriate security standards.

They include

  • Cloud infrastructure and hosting providers.
  • Analytics and crash reporting tools.
  • Email delivery services.
  • Payment processors (where applicable).

Legal requirements

We may disclose your data where required to do so by law, court order, or regulatory authority, or where necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of Fungry, our users, or others.

Business transfers

If Fungry is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your personal data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or a prominent notice on the platform before your data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

5. International data transfers

Some of our service providers may be based outside the UK. Where we transfer your personal data outside the UK, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with UK GDPR — for example, standard contractual clauses approved by the ICO, or transfers to countries with UK adequacy decisions.

6. How long we keep your data

When we no longer need your personal data, we securely delete or anonymise it.

  • Active account: Account and Taste ID data is retained for as long as your account is active, plus up to 2 years after account deletion to allow for dispute resolution and legal compliance.
  • Interaction data: Meal interaction data and usage logs are retained for up to 3 years to support model improvement, then deleted or fully anonymised.
  • Location data: Location data is not stored beyond the session in which it is used to generate recommendations.
  • Marketing: Where you have consented to marketing emails, we retain your email address for this purpose until you unsubscribe.

7. Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the following rights regarding your personal data. To exercise any of them, please contact us at hello@getfungry.com. We will respond within one calendar month.

  • Right of access: Receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification: Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
  • Right to erasure: Ask us to delete your personal data, subject to certain exceptions (e.g. legal obligations).
  • Right to restriction: Ask us to restrict how we process your data while a dispute is resolved.
  • Right to data portability: Receive your personal data in a structured, machine-readable format, or ask us to transfer it to another provider.
  • Right to object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing purposes.
  • Right to withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent, withdraw that consent at any time without affecting prior processing.

Complaints

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe we have not handled your personal data correctly.

8. Cookies and similar technologies

Fungry uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to operate the platform, remember your preferences, and understand how users interact with our product.

Categories

  • Essential cookies: Cookies that are strictly necessary to make the platform work (e.g. keeping you logged in). These do not require your consent.
  • Analytics cookies: Cookies that help us understand how users navigate the platform, which pages are visited, and where errors occur. We rely on your consent for these.

Managing cookies

You can manage or withdraw cookie consent at any time through the cookie settings in the app or your browser settings. Withdrawing consent for analytics cookies will not affect your ability to use Fungry.

9. Children’s privacy

Fungry is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at hello@getfungry.com and we will delete the account and associated data promptly.

10. Security

We take the security of your personal data seriously. We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, loss, destruction, or alteration. These include encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews.

No system is completely secure. If you have reason to believe that your interaction with us is no longer secure, please contact us immediately at hello@getfungry.com.

11. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by displaying a prominent notice on the Fungry platform at least 14 days before the change takes effect. The updated policy will show the new effective date at the top.

Your continued use of Fungry after any changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
